2010

The Philippine Book Development Month is the realization of the National Book Development Board’s (NBDB) goal to create the best conditions for the promotion of Filipino authorship and other creative activities in the book development industry. It is an annual celebration the highlights the creative minds that compose the local publishing industry and ultimately aims to promote the reading of local literature among Filipinos
For the fourteenth year of the Philippine Book Development Month, NBDB sought to create a continuous dialogue on literature and reading in a more global context through the 1st Manila International Literary Festival. Envisioned to be the first international literary festival in Southeast Asia, the Manila International Literary Festival became a venue for discourse between and among the writers, literary agents, publishers, teachers, and readers on the state of literature in the country as well as internationally.
This three-day symposium entitled LOL: Lit Out Loud! focused on several relevant issues in literature today such as the Novel in the Philippines, the effects of new media on the literary scene, and the changing and emerging forms of literature. It also demonstrated the richness and dynamism of language—how it is used by different people—be it Filipino, English, or the many dialects spoken in the country. |
